Huntington Dog Beach: What to Expect (2024)

There aren’t many true dog beaches in Southern California but Huntington dog beach is one of them.

Huntington dog beach is a strip of beach where dogs can roam completely off-leash and play in the ocean.

Where to Park

There are several lots along PCH that are paid ($2/hr). Only cards are accepted.

Note that on busier days, there may be a line to park.

You can also access the dog beach via the main beach area that’s near the Huntington Beach pier—just keep walking north along the sand.

Be sure to follow all of the rules posted at the dog beach entrances. While some might seem restrictive, they are designed with you and your dog’s safety and enjoyment in mind.


Additional tips for a safe, enjoyable visit to Huntington Dog Beach

  • Monitor your dog’s saltwater intake if they’re swimming. Some dogs can unintentionally consume potentially harmful amounts of saltwater when they’re having lots of fun.

  • Huntington dog beach is not exactly enclosed—PCH is a busy highway that is easily accessible to a fast dog so take the necessary precautions.
